NUMEROUS TURBE MONUMENTS IN B&H

Famous persons of the time were buried in them: viziers, religious dignitaries, the poet Ilhamija... These are specific constructions of “open” and “closed” memorial architecture. Travnik has eight turbes.

 //  Uniqueness

TWO CLOCK TOWERS

One Clock Tower is in the Downtown area and the other one is in the Upper side of the town. Travnik is the only town in Bosnia and Herzegovina that has two clock towers. These towers were erected in the 18 th century and still represent the impressive symbol of Travnik.

SUNDIAL

For centuries, the unique sundial next to the Hajji Ali-bey Mosque has been measuring time with a system of showing "a la Turk" time. It is the only one of its kind in the Balkans, and a few years ago, it got its modern young brother inside the walls of the Old Town fortress.

MATCH FACTORY IN DOLAC ON THE LAŠVA RIVER

Another peculiar story was created during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. It is the only one in the Balkans. A factory that still produces matches and resists the modern age of lighters.

ĆIRO, THE LOCOMOTIVE

There are only four locomotives of this type left in the world. One is ours, next to the Regional Museum of Travnik. With the construction of the narrow-gauge railway through Travnik during the Austro-Hungarian era, these trains transported people and goods to Bosnian bazaars and kasabas (small towns).

THE BIRTH HOUSE OF IVO ANDRIĆ

It’s not unusual it is the only one in the world when we all have only one house where we were born. But this one is special because it is the birthplace of the only Nobel laureate for literature in a wider sense, our own Ivo Andrić. It was made in the Bosnian style, exactly like old houses were in the past.

JESUIT (TRAVNIK) GYMNASIUM

It is the second oldest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A part of the Gymnasium is the church of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, with beautiful clocks and a bell on its tower. The Jesuit (Travnik) high school produced many successful students, in which it is said: "We are proud of our academic achievements and work tirelessly to build on our tradition of excellence in and out of the classroom. We preserve the best of traditional education while embracing modern methods and developments in teaching and learning.".

SCRAMBLED EGGS FESTIVAL - KAJGANIJADA

Somewhere, it is still called "Ćimburijada", and in Travnik, it is Kajganijada. It is, on the one hand, a greeting ritual for the arrival of spring, the awakening of nature and new life on March 21.That's when friends, neighbors, and relatives gather... everyone enjoys the fresh air by preparing eggs in large pans, and there's something else - from a barbecue to great singing.

SHORT-BEAK PIGEON FROM TRAVNIK

No matter how hard Bukovica and Vilenica try to narrow it down, the sky above Travnik shines with beauty and vastness whenever it is filled with flocks of our pigeons in a playful joint game. It is a pleasure to watch them as they freely cruise through the blue sky, almost disappearing from sight and then returning, creating the most beautiful arabesques, too. Meet a dignified, proud, beautiful, curious, and tenacious pigeon from the Heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

TORNJAK - BOSNIAN AND HERZEGOVINIAN SHEPHERD DOG

The protector of sheep flocks on the vast pastures of our Vlašić mountain. This is an adorable and charming dog, playful and gentle with children and above all loyal to its shepherd, fiercely guarding its flock from mountain predators, wolves, and bears if they attack sheep. Meet our courageous and proud dog - meet our Vlašić Tornjak dog. ️

JEWISH CEMETARY

With a beautiful view of Travnik, a Jewish cemetery in the Bojna neighborhood tells the story of the time when Jews lived in Travnik together with other people. In the same area, Catholic and Muslim cemeteries are also juxtaposed, respecting each other.

PRAMENKA SHEEP FROM DUB VILLAGE

Although it is widespread throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighboring countries, Vlašić and, more precisely, the village of Dub is the area of its origin, where our world-famous sheep cheese is also made. It is characterized by adaptability, resistance, and a high level of milk yield. A true representative of the sheep Pramenka group.

OLD WHITE POPLAR IN TURBE

In the past, there were four giants of this species in Turbe, as recorded in the 1930s. At 400 years old, the only example of White Poplar lies next to the Old Mosque in Turbe. It is a place of rest and refreshment for many cyclists who pass through this area.

ROSA BRANDIS

A rose without thorns - it adorns the landscapes of Vlašić with its beauty and scent. It is rare and proud of "her" Erich von Brandis.  If planted elsewhere, it becomes a rose with thorns, showing resistance to moving from its tamed Vlašić. It is our mountain beauty that we are very proud of.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TOWN ENTRANCE

When you approach Travnik from the east, behind a slight bend, you will see a beautiful scene, one of the most stunning entrances to a town. That artistic image will remain in your memory for a lifetime. Welcome to Travnik!
